Free Programs

- NimbleX Linux

WARNING! WARNING! I AM ABOUT TO PROVE I AM A COMPUTER GEEK.

NimbleX Linux has a different approach to LiveCD. It has modules that are loaded into the filesystem/kernel before anything else starts. Simply put, that means that you can put your own custom modules in it and basically "install" them with a drag & drop. Custom Nimblex lets you do that. It's your own OS. Do what you want with it. To make your own custom NimbleX, go to http://www.nimblex.net . If you want to try mine, click on the ISO link below. Click Here to go to my NimbleX download page. Click Here to make your own custom NimbleX. I am hosting here to help take some load off of Nimblex.net for one, and to be able to show people my own custom Nimblex. I might get around to making a DVD image with every module in the repo, but not very likely. You have to download each... individual... module... ZZZZZZZZZZZZZ............

Audacity

If you are into sound  and music, and want it to sound really cool, then use this!

Audacity is a program that is available for Windows [PC], Mac [Intel and PowerPC] and Linux [RPM]. You can use it to record things with a microphone, then mix 2 recordings together, edit one recording, or use special effects. A lot like GarageBand, the possibilities are endless!

Firefox

You know about Firefox, right? Firefox, in my opinion, loads sites faster than Internet Explorer, and does not crash as often. Firefox also has the ability to save your tabs when you shut the computer down. You don't even have to bookmark them. When you open Firefox back up, everything you had open when you closed Firefox will still be there! How cool is that?

Cool Toys

Legos

You can build a lot with legos. You can build with the playsets that have the bricks required to do certain scenarios, but I like to just buy a bunch of them and build something no one would even think to build. If you get the Better Bricks [they are WAY bigger and they have a little give], you can build a life-size box and carry stuff around in it.

Nintendo DS

I probably didn't have to tell you what that was. It can play games and interact with the Wii and browse the internet, but did you know it can run Mac OS? With a device called the Games n' Music by Datel, you can get a bunch of free games to play. They come out with new games pretty often.

Skype

Skype allows you to video chat with your friends. It is a free program, but if you pay for some credits, you can get your own computer phone number that a regular phone can call, and you can call people. You can call 1800 numbers for free.

PSP, or PlayStation Portable for people like me who can't stand TLAs.

That's Three Letter Acronyms, by the way, and the PSP is cool. The PSP can do a lot more than what you get out of the box. You can buy what's called a tool battery from Datel, and that will allow you to play games from the big PSP free games list. It has Wi-Fi, so you can browse the internet, and you can play Flash games and use bookmarks on a Memory Stick brand memory stick. The Memory Stick is a little on the expensive side, so you might want to get a PSP bundle that includes one.

Wii [who could forget?]

The Wii is awesome. Video games are awesome. The Wii is so much more. It is easy for anyone to pick up and play. [Even you, Grandma.] It can connect with the DS and do stuff. Ask for it for Christmas. It is already beating the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 by more than double the sales. Look out, Sony and Bill Gates! It's Shigeru Miyamoto's 800 pound gorilla.

Cool Tunes

Some cool stuff I made with GarageBand.
